INTERNAL AFFAIRS INVESTIGATION: AN ORIENTATION TO THE PROCESS May 16-17, 2013 A seminar designed to increase the basic knowledge and fundamental practices for individuals selected to serve as investigators in an internal affairs or professional standards unit. Program will review concepts of internal affairs investigations in both law enforcement and correctional environments along with the complexities of the process will be reviewed and discussed. Topics include: (1) basic concepts of internal affairs investigations; (2) role of responsibilities of the internal affairs investigator; (3) recognizing and reacting to deception techniques that might present themselves during the investigation; (4) procedures required in completing the internal affairs investigation; (5) disciplinary procedures; and (6) officers' rights during the internal affairs function.
