TOPICS IN CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION: BODY FLUIDS AND TRACE EVIDENCE
November 28-29, 2012
This is a two-day program with the first day devoted to body fluids and the second to trace evidence. The first program consider types of body fluids and how the investigator might collect and analyze these. Topics to be covered during this session include: (1) scientific basis of body fluid examination; (2) blood and bloodstains and their collection; (3) seminal stains; and (4) other types of fluids such as saliva, urine, and fecal matter. The second day provides discussion on such trace evidence elements as hair, textile fibers, paint chips, glass fragments, and gunshot residue particles. Topics in this segment include: (1) trace evidence associated with clothing; (2) recovery of the clothing of the victim; (3) cloth fragments and impressions; (4) threads; (5) fibers; (6) hair; (7) soils, rocks, and minerals; and debris. INSTRUCTOR: Jonathan Turner, Crime Scene Investigator, Toms River Police Department, Toms River, New Jersey. NOTE: ENROLLMENT IS FOR BOTH CLASSES AND NOT FOR INDIVIDUAL ONES.
