Teaching Your Dog Manners - Pet Tips

Manners Early training is essential when teaching your dog manners. It is important as a pet owner to practice obedience lessons on a daily basis as soon as the new dog is brought into the household. Frequently training your dog will help to strengthen the humane animal bond bringing you closer together. Always avoid anger and yelling when trying to get your dog to do something new. Activities should be fun and interesting. Every interaction you have with your dog teaches him something. He soon discovers what you will accept and not accept. Consistency is key as information is exchanged between dog and guardian. Use lots of praise to teach him when the dog obeys a command. Enrollment in an obedience class is highly recommended.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter offers free obedience training classes to new adoptees. Call (609 )485-2345 for information.
