A two-day seminar for officers in law enforcement, corrections, military, security who oversee K-9 Units. The program will be especially valuable for those who have limited K-9 management training and who want to improve the operational capability of their units. Topics include: (1) establishing a K-9 unit or augmenting an existing one; (2) establishing K-9 unit policies; (3) legal use of K-9 units; (4) maintaining records; (5) selecting personnel for the unit; (6) using outside consultants for training; (7) working with community groups to promote understanding regarding the need for a unit; (8) maintaining health records and preventing illness of the dogs; (9) selecting dogs; (10) supervising the unit; and (11) where and when K-9s might best be utilized.
