    Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are viral or bacterial infections passed from one person to another through close physical contact and sexual activity including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. STDs can affect anyone and are very common in the United States. The Center for Disease Control estimates that 20 million new infections occur each year. You can reduce your risk by using condoms correctly every time you have sex and by being in a relationship with a partner who does not have an STD. Signs and symptoms of an STD do not always occur. It is possible to have an infection and not know it. If you are having sex, get tested.

The Atlantic County Division of Public Health offers confidential STD testing, treatment, counseling/education, HIV testing and PrEP referrals at no cost to county residents. The walk-in clinic is open every Monday (except holidays) 2:00-4:00PM at 201 S. Shore Road in Northfield. No appointment is necessary. For more information call (609) 645-5933.
