As a result of the most recent Federal Decennial Census that was concluded in 2011, Atlantic County is required to perform a redistricting of the Atlantic County Commissioner districts.  Atlantic County has a nine-member commission.  Four of the commissioners run at-large and the other five members are in designated districts. 

State statute N.J.S.A. 40:41A-118 provides for a redistricting commission composed of four members; two Democrats and two Republicans.  When the four commissioners cannot agree on redistricting, they may declare an impasse and send a letter to the New Jersey Supreme Court Justice who then appoints a fifth commissioner to break any ties.  A fifth commissioner, Judge Georgia Curio, was appointed by the state Chief Justice on February 4, 2022. She subsequently issued a Statement of Standards on February 8, 2022 to be applied to the redistricting process. 

The redistricting commission is currently conducting its work which must be completed by March 7, 2022.
