Tuesday, September 19, 2023 is NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY and in commemoration of this event, the Atlantic County Superintendent of Elections & Commissioner of Registration has reached out to area high schools to bring local youth to the voting booth by taking the first step and registering to vote.
“In addition to our year-round outreach at county and municipal events, we celebrate National Voter Registration Day in our high schools so students who are juniors and seniors can get a jump start on their involvement in elections by registering to vote,” said Maureen Bugdon, Atlantic County Superintendent of Elections.
“It’s important to remember that you can now register at age 17 and become immediately eligible to vote on your 18th birthday,” she added. “For those who are 17 years of age, this is a great way to fast-track your eligibility by getting through the 21-day waiting period before you turn 18. For those already 18, the voter registration deadline for the General Election is October 17, so there’s still time to complete your form and be well-prepared for your very first voting experience.”
In recognition of National Voter Registration Day, high schools have been provided voter registration forms in various languages, information about online registration, and a patriotic poster featuring each participating school name or logo. Students may decorate their poster during the school day and return the artwork once completed. Each poster will be displayed as part of a mural that will be available in the Superintendent of Elections’ office.
