Latest COVID-19 Fatalities Include Nine Elderly

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of nine more elderly Atlantic County residents, all of whom had pre-existing conditions and eight of whom resided in long-term care facilities, according to the Atlantic County Division of Public Health.

The fatalities included a 72-year old Buena Vista Township man; an 85-year old Hammonton man; and an 83-year old Pleasantville man; as well as two Northfield residents, an 82-year old woman and an 88-year old man; and four Galloway residents, a 73-year old man, and three women ages 84, 88 and 91.

County health officials also reported 44 new cases among 22 men, ages 19-97 and 22 women, ages 25-91 with 40 more residents cleared from quarantine. This brings the countywide totals to 1,860 positives, 121 deaths and 541 recovered.

Today’s new cases were confirmed as follows: nine in Atlantic City, six in Egg Harbor Township and Galloway, five in Absecon and Pleasantville, three in Hamilton Township and Northfield, two in Hammonton and Ventnor, and one in Buena Vista Township, Linwood and Port Republic.

Atlantic County will continue to provide COVID-19 testing on Thursday, May 21 for symptomatic county residents with a doctor’s prescription. Testing is conducted behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Appointments are available 10 AM – 1 PM each day and can be made online at www.aclink.org.

Residents should come prepared with their doctor’s script, proof of residency such as a driver’s license or utility bill, and their appointment confirmation. Those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so others may have an opportunity to be tested.

As of May 18, Atlantic County has tested a total of 1,342 residents at its drive-through test sites with 26% being confirmed positive.

In the event of inclement weather (heavy rain, thunderstorms and/or high winds) on a scheduled test date, residents with appointments should check the county website (www.aclink.org) for updates regarding postponement and rescheduling.
