This course is designed to ensure a quality presentation of street level negotiation skills training for the road officer, corrections officer or supervisors, in order for them to bring about a peaceful resolution to the current call for service or corrections incident. This course is designed to teach the basic skills, techniques and concepts required of patrol or corrections officers, with an emphasis on communication and active listening. Topics Include: • Introduction to Street Negotiations • “The First Few Minutes” • Essential Communication Skills • Active Listening Skills • Identifying the Emotional Factor • Theories of Motivation-Psychology • Body Language, Micro Expressions, Para-Linguistic Cues • Student Exercises INSTRUCTIONAL GOAL: To provide the patrol officer/deputy, corrections officer and supervisors with the skills, techniques and basic concepts needed to bring about a peaceful resolution to calls for service involving agitated or potentially violent subjects. The officer/deputy/CO/supervisor, will learn the importance of identifying and interpreting an individual’s body language as well as other indicators that give away a subjects pending actions, as well as truthfulness.
