Atlantic County Celebrates Rural Health Weeks with Free Screenings

The Atlantic County Division of Public Health will join in celebrating Rural Health Weeks, September 16-30, by hosting two free events to promote greater access to quality health care among rural residents.

According to studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, rural Americans are more likely to die from heart disease, cancer, unintentional injury, chronic respiratory disease, and stroke than their urban counterparts. Higher poverty rates, less access to healthcare and lack of health insurance contributed to poor health outcomes among rural Americans.

The Division of Public Health will provide health education and free blood pressure and cholesterol screenings on Wednesday, September 19 at the following two locations:

10 AM - 12 Noon
310 Bellevue Avenue
Hammonton

1 PM - 4 PM
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center
661 Jackson Road
Newtonville
