Aerial Mosquito Spray Scheduled for Tuesday, September 26 in Galloway and Port Republic

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control is scheduled to conduct an aerial spray over portions of Galloway Township and Port Republic on Tuesday, September 26, between 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM, weather permitting, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce the population of adult mosquitoes and prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illness. No other Atlantic County communities are scheduled for aerial spraying at this time.

In Galloway Township, the areas to be treated are bounded by:  Route 9 and King’s Highway; Rt. 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from Smith-Bowen Rd. to Leeds Point Rd.; Rt. 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from E. Somers Landing Rd. to E. Chanese Lane.

In Port Republic, the areas to be treated are between Clark’s Landing Road and Chestnut Neck.

Aerial spraying will be done using Fyfanon ULV, the trade name for malathion, applied as an ultra-low volume aerosol.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not require relocating or taking special precautions during mosquito control spraying though some may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by:

* Staying indoors during application to immediate area

* Keeping windows shut, window fans and window air conditioners off (or set to circulate indoor air) during spraying

* Keeping children’s toys indoors

* Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes and toys

Residents can help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water from their properties. To learn more visit www.aclink.org/publicworks/mosquito.
