Free Tax Assistance Available for Superstorm Sandy Victims

The Atlantic County Library System/Ventnor will host a free tax assistance outreach event to bring services directly to those who suffered damage or disruption in their lives as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The event will be held on Thursday, March 7 between 5 PM and 7:30 PM. The library is located at 6500 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor.

This is the first of eleven scheduled outreach assistance events being held through the state during February and March, the height of tax season, to help individuals and businesses prepare their 2012 tax returns.

The events have been organized by the Treasury Department’s Division of Taxation and are being held in towns that suffered heavy damage during Sandy or adjacent communities. Those wishing to attend can register online at They can also send an email to or call 609-633-6015 and leave a message.

The events are also being supported by the AARP’s Tax-Aide program and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Experts will be available to assist residents with inquiries on how to report Sandy-related personal and business losses on their federal and New Jersey tax returns, how to deal with property tax issues caused by Sandy-related damage and how to recover lost tax documents or reconstruct lost personal or business records and many other topics.
